Help with Healing
There is this aspect to many spiritual communities that emphasizes the act of figuring it all out on your own. That if you can’t “heal yourself” all by yourself, you have failed. As a healer, as a person, as a spiritual being. We are constantly being told that everything is within us and we should be able to figure out our situation all by ourselves. That if we reach out to others we are failing on our healing journeys and not truly embracing what it means to be “spiritual.”
I learned the hard way that this is just not the truth for everyone. For some, perhaps. But for me, I did need the help of others at times. It was difficult to reach out and ask for help, to say that I am having a hard time and need assistance.
Many times I was struggling with the emotional, mental and physical aspects of my spiritual process. A depression so deep and dark that I wanted to shut myself off from the world and keep to myself, just going through the motions to get by. Or physical issues so intense that smiling was only to cover the pain, fear and confusion. Feeling cut off spiritually because of the overwhelm … all of this was too much to handle on my own at times.
There were times when I needed a friend, a fellow healer, to help me check in and sort out parts of my process. Sometimes I just needed help grounding or clearing my field because from my own perch I could not see it all. Other times I needed help understanding the messages I was receiving from spirit, because I was too close to the situation. There have been times when my Higher Self has gone to others without my knowing, requesting healing because I was in such a bad physical state.
Our spiritual journeys have the potential to be very intense for some of us. There is a lot of clearing - from past lives, ancestral trauma, present life and more, that often needs attention. It is a constant cycle, sometimes cropping up when we least expect it.
I used to be so hard on myself, so full of shame, when I needed to reach out to fellow healers and friends for assistance. The feeling as though I was not good or skilled enough to take care of myself would weigh so heavily on me, and cause me to hesitate when reaching out to others. The suffering would often overtake this hesitation, however, and I would find myself consumed with guilt, shame, embarrassment and regret as I asked for support.
Honestly, there are times when I still reach out to friends for help. I am learning that it is okay to lean on others, to reach out for support. I am understanding that we do not have to do this entire journey on our own. We all have so much to offer each other and different ways to nurture each other. Ultimately, we are still the ones doing most of the inner work on ourselves and being present on our journey. It is not “cheating” to ask a healer to help you cut some cords or wrap you in protection sometimes.
I often compare this act of reaching out to when I was a hairstylist. Can I cut my own hair? Sure! Can I cut my own hair well? Absolutely! Is it so much more relaxing when someone else stands behind the chair? Totally! And they can see the spots I can not see, that I may have missed, or reach the areas that are sometimes hard to reach. And the conversation is always good, too. That is how I think of us as healers reaching out to other healers. Sometimes they know a different technique to help you, or can see something hidden that you did not notice because you were standing just a bit too close. Regular maintenance is a good thing. There is nothing wrong with asking for help.
Should you find yourself constantly reaching out and never learning how to move forward, it is important to be mindful that you are not giving your power away to others. Still know that you ultimately know yourself better than anyone else, and trust your intuition and what resonates over anyone else. Know that you are capable and powerful. It is imperative not to lose sight of your inner power on your journey when you reach out for support. You are always in the driver’s seat on your journey.
If you are struggling, or are a fellow healer needing some assistance as you walk the path, I have been down the road many times and understand what it feels like to need a little support as you recalibrate yourself. Visit my website to book a healing session to help you feel more aligned.
